Foreword
Europe is suffering a severe political, economic and cultural crisis. There are even those who predict its demise.
The demise of Europe would mean the cultural death of the European nation and millennia-old European culture. The European unification movement is convinced that it is still possible to save Europe, the European nations joining in a community, creating a European Union.
The Latvian and Baltic problem is closely tied to the fate of all Europe, and so we, exiles, also need to follow the question of Europe's destiny and to actively participate in the task of European unification—for the European unification movement is the smithy within which the freedom of the Baltic states is being forged as well.
Therefore, we anticipate publishing the LATVIAN JOURNAL FOR EUROPEAN UNIFICATION periodically to inform contributors to the European unification movement and its Latvian stakeholders.
In this first issue of the Latvian Journal for European Unification, "THE EUROPEAN UNIFICATION MOVEMENT AND US," the Latvian Association "European Union" Provisional1 Center representative M. Gulbis, student of theology, examines the history of the European unification movement, its current activities, and a variety of fundamental questions regarding European unification.
For this issue of "The European Unification Movement and Us" we have utilized informational materials received from the unification movement's international centers and organizations of other nations.
For various reasons we are able to publish a greatly abridged version of article "The European Unification Movement and Us"; still, we hope that it will provide interested parties with the most essential information regarding questions concerning the European unification movement.
