WIRTSCHAFTLICHES.

Währungseinheit ist der Lat — 100 Santimi. Parität: 25,22 Ls - 1 Pfd. Sterling. Lettland ist in erster Linie Agrarland, 60% der Bevölkerung sind landwirtschaftlich tätig. Siedlungsweise der Landbevölkerung in Einzelhöfen. Ca. 90% der Höfe haben eine Fläche von 2—50 ha. Es gedeiht Viehzucht, Ackerbau, Molkereiwesen. Die Industrie beschäftigt ca. 20% der Bevölkerung. Hauptzweige sind Holz-, Textil-, Lebensmittel- und Gummiindustrie. Wichtigste Ausfuhrwaren: Holz, Butter, Flachs, Bacon, Vieh, Saaten, Zündhölzer, Papier und Zellstoff. Haupt-Einfuhrwaren: Kohle, Öle, Industrie- und Landmaschinen, Wolle und Baumwolle, Kunstdünger. Ein Großkraftwerk an der Daugava bei Ķegums zur Elektrifizierung des Landes ist im Bau.
